Use Reflectors for fluorescent light bulbs
Reflectors do not decrease energy use but will aid in increasing lumen output and making the light appear brighter, and may negate requirements for installing additional lighting.
Why?
Reflectors, which can sometimes be purchased polished, can increase the effective light output of fluorescent tubes by directing light down where it is needed. Care should be taken to ensure that reflectors will have the desired effect, particularly in retail environments. A trial of reflectors in a small area may be beneficial initially.
How?
Disconnect the power, remove the light diffuser, and remove the fluorescent tubes before fitting the reflectors. You may like to clean the diffuser before replacing it.
Carbon savings aren't applicable, but reflectors may negate the requirement for additional lighting.
Cost to implement
Less than $10 for each reflector. These are simple to install and do not require specialised knowledge.
