Turn off standby power
Appliances don’t need to be switched on at all times: they can be switched off at the power point overnight or when not in use.
Why
Standby power from office appliances can comprise up to 6% of office energy use.
How
Where possible, connect printers, copiers and computers to a single power board which can conveniently switch off all appliances at once at the end of the day. There are powerboards available with kill switches which can conveniently group together multiple appliances and turn them off together. You can even get powerboards with a foot switch to save you getting under desks to switch off power. Download energy saving signage to remind staff to switch appliances off when not in use from whatcanidorightnow.com.au
Carbon (kg)
4098.2 kg for a business that implements standby power usage reduction practices across their whole organisation.
How did we calculate this?
Assumes a 6% saving per annum and is based on the average Victorian SME carbon emissions from electricity (68.3 tCO2-e).
