Replace poor fridge seals
The integrity of a fridge's seals plays a key role in the appliance’s efficiency.
Why
Refrigerator seals that don’t seal the door properly let the cool air out, and make the fridge work harder to keep temperatures down. Replacing perished seals or seals that don’t work properly will keep your refrigerators cooler, and will save energy and money. You may find that once the seals are replaced, you can run your fridge on a lower setting. This is because your fridge won't be fighting all the warmer air getting in anymore.
How
Replace fridge seals yourself, or get a service technician to supply the seals and fit them for you. If the refrigerator is owned by a drinks supplier, contact them directly to replace the seals or provide a more efficient unit.
How do we calculate this
67.2kgCO2-e represents a 10% increase in efficiency for refrigerators receiving new seals (as advised by Moreland Energy Foundation Limited Phoenix Fridge program)
