Replace Lamps in Exit Signs
These signs use a single 3W LED and also result in reduced maintenance with an expected average life of around 50-100,000 hours compared to the 8,000 hours typically found with the T8 tubes.
Why?
‘EXIT’ signs commonly utilise 2x10W T8 tubes to illuminate them. By replacing them with 3W LED exit signs, significant savings can be achieved. Exit signs that utilise LED lamps also result in reduced maintenance with an expected average life of around 50-100,000 hours compared to the 8,000 hours typically found with the T8 tubes.
How?
Replace the existing exit sign fitting with a new one that utilises LED lamps.
Exit lighting must conform to the Australian Standard AS1680 for Interior Lighting and the Australian National Construction code
How did we calculate this?
Assuming the average SME has 5 exit signs, 10 lamps of 10W each, and the lamps are switched on for 2000 hours per year. 10 x 0.007 x 2000 x 1.37 = 192 kg CO2e savings.
Cost to implement
About $415 for 1 exit sign, $360 each for 12. Assuming 15 minutes install time per light, at a rate of $80 per hour, the installation cost per light fitting is estimated at $20.
