Install a solar PV system or wind turbine
Installing solar panels or a wind turbine at your business means you can create your own energy.
Creating your own energy reduces your carbon footprint by reducing your business' reliance on polluting forms of electricity generation.
Businesses can currently access the same subsidy for the installation of solar PV and wind generation systems as households. The installation of systems of less than 100kW generate 'Small scale Technology Certificates' or STCs, which your installer should offer as a discount off the retail price of any installed system. Commercial solar systems larger than 100kW can also access this scheme through the creation of Large scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), however the process is somewhat more complex.
The STC and LGC market is underpinned by Australia's Renewable Energy Target, currently set at 20% of renewables by 2020.
There are many different solar panel and wind turbine options available on the market. Do your research to find the right system for your needs. VECCI's Carbon Compass helpline can provide impartial support and advice on renewable energy systems for business, including a free quote review service. How did we calculate this?
Based on 10kW solar PV system over 15 year lifetime. Estimated lifetime electricity generation (Melbourne)
* Vic emissions factor 2013 = carbon savings (209,625kWh * 1.32)/1000 = 276.7 tCo2-e
