Install push button timers on split system air conditioners
Timers ensure air conditioners are only switched on when needed.
Why?
On mild days air conditioners might be left on all day unnecessarily and may even be accidentally left on overnight.
How?
A push button timer ensures the air conditioning systems switch off automatically after a set period of time and can be wired so the unit operates simply by pressing it. This will need to be fitted by a licensed electrician.
How did we calculate this?
As an example, we have assumed that a business has 10kW of cooling capacity, and that 3kW of electricity is required by split system air conditioners to deliver this cooling. If this cooling was left operating for an additional 10 hours per year unnecessarily, then the carbon emissions would be: 3 x 10 x 1.37 = 41kgCO2e per year
Cost to implement
$200 per push button. Installation costs are estimated at $80 per push button, assuming one hour install time per sensor.
