Why?
Plastic bags waste valuable resources and create unnecessary rubbish.

How?
- Provide reusable bags for your customers.
- Install a plastic bag recycling bin in a prominent place to collect old plastic bags so you can reuse them.
- Encourage customers to say no to bags at the register, especially if they only have a few items.
- Encourage customers to bring their own bags.
- Don't put items that already have handles (e.g. dog food, nappies, cordial bottles) into bags.

How did we calculate this?
Based on case studies collected by Sustainability Victoria, in this calculation we have assumed that an SME gives away approximately 17,000 plastic bags per year. Each plastic bag has an embodied energy of 24gCO2e. Therefore 17,000 x 24/1000 = 408 kgCO2e
