Assess shower heads for WELS ratings, and replace inefficient models
WELS refers to the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme, which specifies the relative water efficiency of a product using a 6 star rating system.
See ‘Install flow restrictors on all taps’ if you need to decrease flow rate.
Why
Saving hot water reduces the amount of water heated, and the amount of energy required for showering.
How
Assess the existing shower heads to ensure that they provide a flow rate no more than 9 L per minute.
Check the flow rate of your showerheads using a bucket and stop watch. Turn the shower on for 15 seconds, then multiply the volume released by 4 to find its flow rate. Efficient shower heads can be purchased from all hardware stores.
How we calculate this
The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme (VEET) stipulates carbon savings achieved for this action.
