Sustainable business practices
• Heating and Cooling - Double glazed high performance window glass minimises heat gain and loss. The heating and cooling system is sensory to ensure it is only used when required.
• Lighting Efficiency - Reliance on artificial light is reduced due to the floor to ceiling windows plus all necessary lighting utilises fluorescent and LED light globes. All light switches are on timers and where possible, nonessential lights are removed.
• Building Materials and Construction - All building materials are either 100% recycled or from natural sources e.g. plantation timber in lieu of rainforest timber. Material selection and construction methods aim to minimise waste and emissions. Wood used within the facility is re-claimed from a wool shed from Western Australia.
• Recycling and Waste Reduction - All office paper, cardboard and Edge booties are recycled. Paper is favoured over plastic in the giftshop, recycling bins are prominently placed around the venue and a ‘Visitor Guide’ recycling box on exit. All grey water is fed through a filtration system, reducing waste and smell levels. The size of Skydeck’s media kit has been reduced and Edge pictures are available on USB instead of hard copy.
• Major Equipment Use - All major equipment is set to timers and undergoes regular maintenance checks to ensure peak performance levels.
• Transport - Skydeck offset’s its carbon usage when flying and over 50% of staff ride their bikes or take public transport to work.
• Emails – We have a standard recycling message on all our emails.
• Electronic Payslips – Paper payslips have been phased out
• Sustainability Education Program- An education worksheet has been developed to examine the sustainable living practices of the Eureka Tower and the effects on urban living.
